Lola Faye Café is a brand-new tropical themed café at Hamilton Road, and also is Muslim-owned which uses 100% Halal ingredients.
It joins neighbours such as Lucid, For The People, Once Upon A Time by Jeanette Aw, and SCALED by Ah Hua Kelong along the same stretch at the hot Jalan Besar district.
While many tropical-themed cafes usually pick a bright and vibrant look, or Bali-style decor, Lola Faye Café has gone for a darker look which is still photogenic.
They are primarily a gelato-desserts and frappe shop, though they also serve up wraps and sandwiches.
Three fillings are available, which include the Faye’s Spicy Chicken ($11.90), Specialty Satay Chicken ($11.90) and Stir-Fry Soy Beef ($12.90).
These wraps can be customised with various vegetables, sauces, and meat base (like Subway). Customers take a order-chit and start ticking away.
I quite enjoyed the wrap which was considerably saucy and mildly spicy, packed with ingredients with rather robust flavours.
The main highlights are the gelato desserts, presented in the forms of Gelato Croissant ($9.90), Buttermilk Belgium Waffles ($6, additional $5 for single scoop, $9 for double scoop), and Fudgy Brownies with Gelato ($10.90) – moist brownies filled with chocolate chunks, topped with shaved chocolate and whipped cream.
Available flavours when I visited were Salted Caramel, Cookies & Cream, Sea Salt, Dark Chocolate, Biscoff, Dark Chocolate and Nutella.
They were all generally to the sweet side when I tried samples, and I thought sugar level could be lowered to allowed the key flavours to be more pronounced.
I settled for the Sea Salt because it was the most special tasting, paired with butter croissant, topped with sauces, whipped cream and toppings.
While I wished the croissant was crispier and hotter for a better contrast, this was an indulgent treat (that is considered not too expensive) that may deliver you to a sugar high.
Also offered are flavoured Iced Lattes ($4.90 to $7.90) with several exciting flavours from Caffe Latte, Caramel Latte, Hazelnut Latte, Toffee Nut Latte, Choc Cookie Latte, Gula Melaka Latte to Matcha Latte.
Recommended is their Strawberry Berry Milkshake ($6.90, $7.90).
The one thing special is that they open up to 2am from Wednesdays to Saturdays; and 12am during Tuesday and Sunday (closed Mondays), making this a place to hang out after supper if you need that sweet treat.
