Situated next to Machi Machi Singapore and one floor below Nirvana Dessert Café is a new Muslim-owned bubble tea shop – MILK.
Kampong Gelam is one of Singapore’s oldest urban district where the Malay community gather during the colonial era, and is now home to many Halal-certified and Muslim-owned cafes.
Being the first Muslim-owned bubble tea shop in that area (directly next to Machi Machi which is another bubble tea shop), MILK is mainly a takeaway store with limited seating capacity selling Bubble Teas ($4.50 – $6.80) and Stroopwafel ($4), a popular dessert from Amsterdam.

Their bubble tea menu ranges from Classic drinks that includes Brown Sugar Milk ($6) and Matcha Mascarpone ($6.80).
Premium drinks include Ice Kacang ($6.80) and Berry Cranberry ($6.80), Fruit Series such as Grape Cream Chz ($6), Strawberry Cream ($6), Watermelon Sugar ($6.80) and Cheese Tea namely Jasmine Green Tea ($4.50) and Cranberry Tea ($4.50).
Add-ons such as Pearls, Red beans and Grass Jelly are available at an additional $1 and people can choose to upsize their drinks at an additional $0.70.
I decided to try out their Stroopwafel ($4) instead that comes in 4 different flavours: S’mores, Matcha Oreo, Biscoff White and Rocher, neatly arranged on the shelf.
Traditionally, the Amsterdam dessert is a wafer cookie made from two thin layers of baked dough joined by a layer of caramel filling.
Here at MILK, the fillings are spread across the surface instead of being sandwiched in between 2 different layers.
The Matcha Oreo Stroopwafel ($4) was my favourite and came with a layer of matcha jam coated onto half the wafer cookie, with broken Oreo crumbs sprinkled.
I enjoyed the matcha spread with a balance mix of sweetness and bitterness that complements well with the sweeter wafer cookie.
The overall taste was buttery and crisp which reminded me of Love Letters we had during Lunar New Year.
The Oreo crumbs sprinkled above added an additional crunch to the combination, and I must say that it was quite addictive.
The S’mores Stroopwafel ($4) had a layer of chocolate sauce spread across half the wafer biscuit instead, with mini marshmallows adding a chewy texture in contrast to the crunchy base.
These “Instagram-worthy” Stroopwafels are pretty eye-catching and quite tasty and I look forward to trying out their Bubble Teas next time.
